Supporting Our Champions
‘Serving others helps those who give as well as those who receive. Service empowers people to put their talents into action for good purposes, bringing them fulfillment as they meet others’ needs.’
– Whitney Hopler, Writer and Editor
At Asian Charity Services, “We Serve Those Who Serve” in order to make our whole community a better place to live in. When COVID-19 first hit Hong Kong in 2020, we responded to the urgent needs of our peer grassroots NGOs by setting up and launching the online Community Support Platform.
This online Platform Supports a Community of close to 100 impactful NGOs, sharing in their profile, their mission, vision, challenges and needs, for potential funding and other resource partners to learn about and decide how they are able to partner with them, whether it be via core operational funding, sponsoring food vouchers or medical supplies for their service users and beneficiaries, or by giving their skilled and hands-on volunteering time. The connections made via this online Platform have been numerous and inspiring!
When the 5th Wave of Covid-19 struck Hong Kong again in 2022, the Urgent Appeal rallied via the Community Support Platform helped raise more than HK$2.5 million in cash donations made directly to impacted NGOs, as well as other in-kind donations, including medical supplies (medicine, masks, RAT tests), personal protective equipment, food vouchers, data cards, laptops, hot meals and much, much more. The generous contributions from resource partners helped more than 20 social service NGOs working with groups including the elderly, low-income families, migrant domestic workers, refugees and the differently abled.
The Platform gives an online voice and forum to all NGOs who are represented on it, enabling them to not only share their needs and challenges, but also celebrate their success and impact stories.
