• The Hong Kong Rugby Union Community Foundation’s core costs such as staff salaries, office accommodation, admin support etc are covered by the Hong Kong Rugby Union, who in turn rely on the proceeds of the annual Hong Kong Rugby Sevens tournament for 95% of their income.
• With this year’s Sevens having been rescheduled because of the COVID-19 pandemic this has left the HKRU with some significant cash flow challenges, which in turn is impacting across the various areas they fund, including the Foundation – as a result the Foundation has already had to reduce staff headcount.
Top 3 challenges:
• Sports facilities are closed.
• Schools are suspended.
• Social distancing restrictions.
Impact on beneficiaries:
We have used the power of sport to positively impact over 15,000 participants through 16 programmes focusing on health, education and inclusion.
